The Season of lent and Easter

John 1:12

            To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

It seems like these days that all of our daily routines require documentation.  Whether it is writing a check, receiving medical attention, using a credit card, checking into a hotel, to name a few.  Questions are asked like “Where are your papers?”, “I need to see a photo I.D.”, or “What is your mother’s maiden name?”  Soldiers have “Dog Tags”.  Motorists have drivers’ licenses and travelers have passports. Newborn babies are given a birth certificate and a social security number.  Name badges identify employees.  It seems that everyone needs to know who you are and whose you are.

As professing Christians do we really know who we are?  We who have answered Jesus’ gentle call, we who know him as Lord and Savior, are identified with him.  We belong to him forever.  He knows our names; he has written and sealed them in the Book of Life.

Heaven has no need for identification badges, account numbers, passports or birth certificates!  This promise is the absolute foundation of God’s people.  We belong to him.  As we approach the time of Lent and Easter let us celebrate what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.  He redeemed us on Calvary.  We have been bought and paid for by his blood which was shed on the cross.  We are his children.  We are children of the Light, children of God.  Amen
